The Outer Hebrides are a group of Islands 80km .. 50 miles off the west coast of Scotland.

Due to the remote location of this lighthouse and having to carry all the equipment on foot over 8 km or 5 miles of really rough terrain  amateur radio activity from here being basic battery powered QRP 5w/10w activations.

Ushenish Lighthouse was designed by engineers David & Thomas Stevenson.

The lighthouse is located on the east coast of South Uist and was first lit on 10 November 1857, it was also one of the first to be automated in 1970.

The structure is 12m (40ft) tall and unusually its built of brick, it sits 56m (185ft) ASL giving it a range of 19 nautical miles, it flashes red/white every 20 seconds.
